The Bondi Junction shopping centre will reopen on Thursday for a community reflection day before resuming normal trading hours from Friday.

The centre was closed on Saturday afternoon after a man aged 40 years old attacked shoppers with knife, but later shot and killed by the police officer.

Six people died from the incident while many more people were hospitalalised including a nine-month old baby.

There is no retail on Thursday but members of the community would be able to visit the centre to pay respects, Westfield owner Scentre Group Chief executive Elliott Rusanow said.

"Having a reflection day allows members of the community to come back, in a way that is not about retail trade," he said.

On the day also counselling services will be available.

Following the attack on Saturday, families of the victims were given a chance to visit the centre.

"Members did come. I was with those families yesterday and it was a very emotional experience," Mr Rusanow said.

"We are working with all the victim's families in how we support [them] both financially and non-financially in how they grieve and how they move forward from the tragedy."

The security will be increased in the centre and also retailers are not obliged to reopen on Friday, hence, it is their choice when to do so.
