Yesterday, 13 February, Rwanda and Ethiopia signed 5 Memorandum of Understandings in various sectors after a three day Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting that was held in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.

The 3-day meeting touched on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade and investment and fostering closer diplomatic ties through political consultations, regional stability among others.

Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie, Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs , in his remark said Ethiopia is commited to cooperation with all its neighbors and to the implimentation of these agreements and decisions made by the Joint Ministerial Committee.

Minister Taye Atske Selassie said further strengthening of the Nile Basin lnitiative and giving it a permanent structure and working together to that end is of vital interest.

He also said that the two countries are bound together with a shared interest in peace, security, and development. 

The meeting was wound up with the signing of various Memorandum of Understanding between Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda, Dr. Vincent Biruta on areas ranging from political cooperation and consultation, trade, sport, disaster risk reduction and management, and investment cooperation.

Apart from the cooperation agreement signed, Rwanda and Ethiopia have relations based on cooperation in sectors including agriculture, trade, education and others, and the two countries usually work closely in exchanging training and military exercises.

Five years ago, Rwanda and Ethiopia signed a cooperation agreement on air travel services, which immediately opened the doors for the airlines of these countries, including RwandAir and Ethiopian Airlines, to share the air without any obstacles.
