The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has announced that it will block all Kenya Airways passenger flights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam starting from January 22, 2024.
Kenya recently rejected Tanzania's request to allow its airline, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), to conduct cargo flights between Nairobi and third countries.
Tanzania cited the Kenyan authorities' refusal as a violation of Section 4 of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Air Services signed between the two countries in 2016, which infuriated Kenya and led to the suspension or blocking of Kenya Airways flights from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam.
Kenya Airways stated in a released statement that it will collaborate with the Civil Aviation Authorities and hold discussions with the governments of Kenya and Tanzania to find a solution that avoids flight disruptions between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
This decision from Tanzania is expected to have a negative impact on aviation since Kenya Airways was already conducting 33 weekly flights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
